Frozen road to the Hindu Kush

@Lorraine: Not really, maybe an extra jumper and usually a 'pattu' (body shawl) which they wrap around themselves. There is lots of warming around wood-burning stoves and of course never-ending chai - I did the latter too :-)

@Rabbit: many thanks - it was frozen very hard and slithery...'eeeeep' is a very appropriate description lol
