@Observing: Yep, there are a few shrapnel holes and clear signs of fire. Inside the place is full of empty artillery cases etc... maybe for another picture!

You aroused my curiosity with this picture so I did a web search and found out some of the history. Your picture is wonderful in that it only shows the door rather than the whole fort. It certainly has taken a battering. The site I looked at said there was a lot or Russian ordnance around the fort. Anyhow this is a great capture of a very historic place. Well done.

@Marion: Many thanks for your comment, it is a very interesting place indeed. The slopes surrounding the fort were mined, though I believe they have now been de-mined, however I always stayed on the road... justi n case! Here is anotherpicture http://scotfot.aminus3.com/portfolio/145.html
