The proud macho appearance makes me think that it is no wonder they are always fighting wars. Pride can be very destructive.

@Michael Skorulski: Hi Michael, There is no way you can associate the happiness of a father with bringing up a son in such difficult and dire cirumstances with 'fighting wars'. Everyone I met in Afghanistan were ordinary people who wanted to get on with their lives in peace.
