This picture is almost monochrome (not any colour splash) making an atmosphere of desolation. It's difficult to imagine a better futur... yet all has to be done !!!

@Evelyne Dubos: The lack of colour is because it was taken 'contre-jour' as we say in the UK! It was cold, the snow had just melted - the road was just mud, fotunately the open sewer was not too bad! Tomorrow's image is similar... but with a 'splash' of colour!

How dreary and messy. A good photo of what Afghans must overcome to live life. The sewer reminds me of open sewers running down the middle of streets in Peru, where I grew up. In fact, a number of your photos remind me of Peru, especially in the Andes.
