@Irina Sh: Yes, the Soviets built the housing and many other important buildings (including the one I worked in). They were very strong and withstood a tremendous amount of fighting. Soviet bullets... hmmm the damage was done in the civil war Afghan v Afghan and not in the Soviet v Afghan war. All sides had Kalashnikov's so they may have been Soviet bullets... !
