A former Government Ministry of Defence building and military strong point in the fighting. It is very damaged but the surrounding area is worse... it was almost completely flattened. In the early post-conflict days it was here all the TV cameras crews came. The building provided the most dramatic war damaged background for the news reports to be filmed against!

It is indeed dramatic. War is hell for buildings. Slightly worse for the people.

I saw a documentary filmed in Kabul a few years back and there wasn't a single undamaged building in any frame. A building like this one can only be a strong point where those fighting don't have an air force.

@Twelvebit: There was a lot of damage and much still very visible... its getting better... you want to see all the new wedding halls going up... big business! The Darulaman Palace was a strong point during the civil war, I don't think either side had an air force to speak of.
