@Levine: Many thanks for the comments, Betsy, Daroru and Levine. the foreground is a very flat plain called the Shomali Plain, it is made of loess, a fine windblown deposit (great for bricks!) and yes, with mountains behind. There is even higher mountains (Hindu Kush) behind the one you can see! It is a mystery as to what they are pointing/looking at even more of a mystery with the figure in the distance also pointing! It was dusk and just after this we ran into a most incredible electrical storm - the lightning was terrific then we had a duststorm that thick and dark that we couldn't see more than three feet in front of the car. All traffic stopped and we just sat in the blackness of the duststorm for 10 minutes. Ethereal!
