Christmas is of course not celebrated in Afghanistan though the Virgin Mary ("Maryam") in Islam is the mother of Jesus. Jesus is considered by Muslims to be one of the great prophets of Islam. A few days before Christmas the Islamic world celebrated Eid ul-Adha. At celebration and many other times balloon sellers are popular. They often have balloons within balloons... I'm not sure how they do that! They also announce their arrival in the street with a horn or a cry. Balloons were banned during the Taliban times but are now very popular with children.
